Food supplements and pharmaceutical products distributed by us are available in the chains of leading super markets and pharmacies island wide. Further, Amcal Pharma (Pvt.) Limited has been affiliated to the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka as a registered supplier of pharmaceuticals to the government organizations. The State Pharmaceutical Corporation (SPC) and the Ministry of Defence are the two major buyers of our products.

It had been a long felt need of the cousins of Basnayake family to form a conjoined business. They knew that they could succeed in their endeavours towards a common goal. The common feature in Basnayakes was their keenness in the sphere of medicine from the childhood. As a result, Menuka who had opted for Bio stream for his Advanced level, followed a course in Pharmaceuticals. Having completed the course successfully and being qualified professionally he had worked in a leading pharmacy in Sri Lanka for several years. The tenure with the pharmacy paved the way for Menuka to acquire a wider knowledge that would stand him in good stead in his future travail towards success.
Having the firm determination to achieve the goal, on behalf of Basnayakes, Menuka had exerted all his efforts to explore the sphere that suited the ‘trio’ most.
Luck being stood in their favour, simultaneously it was the time during which people were beginning to pay more attention to their physical fitness. As a result the need for food supplements and health care products was felt badly by those who were interested in their physique. Though there was a growing demand, no quality products were available in the market. Seeing the potential the Basnayakes had decided to forge ahead to fill the gap.
By that time, Asanka was functioning as a manager in a private bank and Hasitha was aready in Australia having permanent residency. All these coincidences took place in favour of the Basnayke cousins. Taking the best advantage of the situation, they moved towards their common goal which was to embark on this valuable business.
Together, the three cousins had laid the foundation for their own business in 1994 by registering same as a business entity. Their next aim was to import quality food supplements and health care products to Sri Lanka from Australia. At that time, it seemed to be a herculean task for them with many challenges they had to face. Nevertheless, they did not give up their firm determination and pursued the goal.
Hasitha was entrusted to look for the most suitable manufacturer of food supplements and health care products to join hands with. The outcome of his strenuous efforts was satisfactory. Ultimately, he was able to get into an agreement with two of the Australia’s renowned food supplement and health care product manufacturers to supply their products to Amcal Phrama (Pvt.) Limited exclusively.
That was how about eighteen years back Amcal Phrama (Pvt.) Limited introduced a fish oil as a food supplement under their own brand MEGA 3. Since then. there has been a big demand for the products sold under MEGA 3. With the recognition, MEGA-3 had acquired through the sole right under the Intellectual Property Act. the good will of our company Amcal Phrama (Pvt.) Limited was shot to fame in every nook and corner of Sri Lanka.
When the business of Amcal Phrama (Pvt.) Limited was gradually progressing, Asanka having experience in finance, took over the financial administration of the company.
Subsequent to being in the market for a considerable time, Amcal Phrama(Pvt.) Limited established its goodwill among an exclusive customer base. Still being in the start-up stage having a growing demand for the products already marketed, the need had arisen to expand the product line. As a result, the company was able to introduce its customers a new range of food supplements and health care products. It consisted of many vitamins exclusively manufactured by Australia Natural care to the Sri Lankan market. With addition of the latest range, the products marketed by Amcal Phrama (Pvt.) Limited had exceeded twenty, in number.
